Essay on Othello Chose His Fate - 794 Words
The play Othello the Moor of Venice, is one of Shakespeares great tragedies. That being so, for every tragedy, there is the tragic hero- a man that is, at bottom, truly honorable and good, but plagued by a flaw that causes his fateful undoing. The question then arises whether there is sufficient evidence to all-together condemn Othello as a malevolent and innately evil man, or such evidence that he was simply deceived by Iagos treachery and should be excused for his actions. Yet, as the play unfolds, it is clear that no such solid line can be drawn. That is, we are given evidence that rather suggests that Othellos dynamic role as the tragic hero manipulates the very virtue of his greatness to his demise. It is Othellos passion, theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Desdemonas own account provides further evidence of Othellos innocence. She recounts: My hearts subdued even to the very quality of my lord. I saw Othellos visage in his mind, and to his honors and his valiant parts did I my s oul and fortunes consecrate (I.III.251-255). Another of Othellos qualities, one that makes him susceptible to Iagos trickery, is that of his naivety. Iago recognizes this saying: The Moor is of a free and open nature that thinks men honest (I.III.399-400). It is upon this quality that Iago begins to play Othello. At the onset of the play, Iago is presented as a cunning snake in the grass, the antagonist of the play, and a catalyst that sets Othello into a downward spiral of jealousy, suspicion, rage, and violence- respectively. Angered that Othello appointed Cassio, and not himself as lieutenant, Iago seeks vengeance. An evil and truly deceitful man, Iagos hatred of Othello is masked behind false rhetoric and manipulation, but vividly clear to the audience. While it seems to nearly everyone that Iago is Othellos loyal servant, Iago only serves his own agenda: I follow him to serve my turn upon him. We cannot all be masters, nor all masters cannot be truly followed (I.I.42-44). Thus Iago begins to spin his web of deceit, using anyone that he so chooses as his pawn. Comparison/Contrast The Importance of Good Writing Skills free essay sample
During my on-line research and reading on the importance of good writing I began to ponder my entire knowledge of writing and determined that good writing has been a sign/symbol of a good education, poise, ones mannerisms, convictions and even ones wealth, in some cases, since the dawn of civilized living, centuries ago when the main form of communicating was face to face conversations. Now that we are currently living in a world where 80% to 90% of all of our communications, with the world outside of our home, is done via some sort of digital medium that requires our ritten (typed) transmission, should clearly indicate that we need to increase the level of importance for good writing to match our increased use of it. It is important to produce good writing in order to be able to adequately convey and/or relay ones thoughts, feelings, ideas, personality, etc. We will write a custom essay sample on Comparison/Contrast The Importance of Good Writing Skills or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page to their readers and/or target audience. When considering the importance of good writing there are a few basic elements that I think you should start with, which I consider to be staples in my standard ormula for predicting the importance or the stability of anything in life. They are to simply list out the pros and cons and then compare them. One of the pros to good writing to consider would be how good writing can play a vital role in every aspect of our communities and lives. Some of the vitally important roles writing can play range from the positive impact a well written resume can have on one obtaining a Job (and vice versa) to the Job opportunities and/or new clients that one could gain access to rom one well written Power Point presentation, that one client sees and then tells another and another about (and vice versa) to the much needed progress one could create and/or stimulate for their childs public school or the homeless in their community with a well written letter to a local politician and the list goes on and on Once you have considered the pros of good writing the next aspect to consider when you are trying to determine the importance of good writing would be the cons of writing. One drawback to our modern way of communicating, primarily through written (typed) mediums, is that the unparalleled influences that are present when we communicate face to face, like body language, tone of voice and/or facial expressions, for which we have grown to rely on to help us better predict, determine and then control how others perceive/interpret and react to our words, isnt present! If one is not acutely aware of this it could be a major contributor to them being unable to articulate their thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. into a well written piece that transcends the absence of those natural influences. In order to overcome this hindrance/obstacle we Just have to recall how once before we had to invest ourselves by studying, mimicking and then practicing our parents in order to master our human show of emotions. Then invest ourselves in a similar way in order to master good writing skills. Once you nave gone over your list ot pros and cons to the importance ot good writing I am sure your list of pros will give you a renewed outlook on the importance of good riting and your list of cons will be able to help you overcome any obstacles that you think either have or will hold you back from being a good writer. I hope my examples gave you something to think about and maybe even helped you determine some new reasons for improving your writing and some new tools to get started with. Causes of Behavioral Disorders in Children free essay sample
A discussion of two main causes of behavioral disorders in children child development and biology. Research into these behavioral disorders suggests that brain chemistry and genetics are responsible for predisposition to the conditions, with environmental aspects also a factor. This paper examines the biological approach looking for the definite genetic cause and the child development approach looking at the impact of the environment. Each of these approaches looks at the problem with a different focus and with each approach comes a different understanding of the nature of behavioral conditions in children. Cognitive development is described by Jean Piagets four stages theory. Piaget describes four stages that every child develops through, where in each stage the child thinks differently, acquiring new thinking skills with every stage. These stages are sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. In the sensorimotor period a childs behavior is determined by looking, seeing and feeling, rather than thinking. The Last Leaf Review free essay sample
O Henry always has me saying O marvelous! The gruesome plots, the careful work on the minutest of the minute details, the unpredictable surprise endings, the imaginative use of connotation and so much more. He dared to personify the dreadful Pneumonia as the cold, unseen stranger! THE LAST LEAF remains one of my favorite short stories written by him. The plot revolves around two artist girls Sue and Johnsy who have their own studio in quaint old Greenwich Village. Theirs was a relationship fostered on mutual trust and their common tastes in art, chicory salad and bishop sleeves! All went hunky dory till Johnsy fell ill with pneumonia one cold November month. The disease seemed to drain out the last streaks of will and womanly taste from her being. She lay all day on her bed awaiting her death, looking out of the window listlessly. The doctor put her chances at one-in-ten, which he swelled up to one-in-five if Sue managed to get Johnsy to ask one question about the new winter styles in cloak sleeves! Here the author tries to cook up humor from a womans natural eye for fashion. We will write a custom essay sample on The Last Leaf Review or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Distressed by the doctors verdict Sue cried a Japanese napkin to a pulp another typical womanly reaction! She, at no cost, wanted to lose a friend who had so much in common with her and who had, for the past one year, been her staunch companion in everything from her artistic conquests to her personal trivia. With a heavy heart she gathered her drawing board and paintbrush (and a great amount of will) and made her way into Johnsys room. Johnsy lay there still as death itself. Sue began working on an illustration for a magazine story. Young artists must pave their way to Art by drawing pictures for magazine stories that young authors write to pave their way to Literature! Here the author has skillfully rawn a comparison between the two classes of strugglers and brought to light how the two, despite being so different in their genres, together make a wonderful piece! How many of us have actually read up a story because the illustrations were appealing?! Coming back to the story, our heroine Sue sat there in the room sketching with determination, trying to drown her sorrow into her art. Sud denly the sound of low moans broke her trance. She went quickly to Johnsys bedside. She was lying there eyes open wide and fixed outside the window. She was counting counting backwards! Sues solicitous glances found that Johnsy had her eyes on an old, old vine, the leaves of which had been ripped off its body, exposing the rotting skeleton. It had been losing leaves at an alarming rate, from over a hundred leaves on it three days ago to five Just then. In her desperation Johnsy cried out that her life would betray her the day the last leaf fell! Her friend rebuked her with magnificent scorn, calling her a scatterbrain! She declared that she wouldnt leave the room until she saw the last leaf fall off, which she was sure would happen before dark, and prove Johnsys paranoid fears unfounded. On the ground floor of Sues studio lived old Behrman. He was over sixty and sported a long Michael Angelo Moses beard dangling over an impish body. A failure in art his drawing board had waited forty years to receive the first line of the great masterpiece he planned to create! It was still waiting. He made both ends meet by serving as a model to young artists. And Sue was his regular customer. Later that day Sue went over to Behrman to get him to to him. The old man was visibly stupefied at what he heard and blabbered about illogical people of the world. Nevertheless, Sue went back home once her work was done. Days passed and the old vine started making small steps to becoming bald! As each day came and went, its leaves bid adieu one after the other. And Johnsy her belief was becoming a reality! She was slowly slipping away into death. So the leaves fell one after the other until one very last! Johnsy busied herself bidding her final farewell to the world. Days slipped away like sand; soon and fast, but the last leaf refused to fall off, determined not to betray its naked host! Rain, shine or the twilight, nothing could possibly make it part ways with the vine. The young woman waited and she waited still and then her patience wore off. The concluded that God didnt want her in his kingdom and realized that asking for death was a sin. For the first time through her illness she asked for her broth without waiting for Sue to Jostle it down her throat. Soon she was her true self again up and about! One afternoon as the two girls sat knitting, Sue broke the news of old Behrmans death from pneumonia. He was found cold and wet and in pain and beside him was a palette with green and yellow colours mixed on it. No one had wondered why the last leaf never fluttered, never moved Behrman had finally delivered his masterpiece! He had painted it the night the last leaf fell!

Is Computer Technology Ruining Society Today
Is Computer Technology Ruining Society Today? Ever since the beginning of our existence, man has been trying to forge ahead and better himself. Throughout history man has pushed to achieve that which had always been considered unachievable. Sure some have shunned advancements and some have even tried to destroy it, yet it and we still move on. At the point we have reached today, technology not only enables us to have better lives, it also gives us the opportunity for global unity and advancement. I feel that the major effect that computer technology has made is to make us a global society, made communication as fast as the blink of an eye which results in quickly sharing ideas therefore making it possible for us to work with others in our fields to make those technological advancements at quantum speed. To assess what the affect of computer technology has on our culture we must look to the past. We would do this and we will see a magnificent difference between now and then. In the past hours upon hours were spent on projects and work that today thanks to computer technology only takes minutes. This technology enables us to do these projects with much greater accuracy and precision than we could ever hope for without their help. Some say that because of our reliance upon these machines we are giving up our work ethic and becoming lazier, that we rely on equipment and cannot function without them. To that comment I must say, the emergence of computer technology not only created thousands of new jobs and fields it also stimulated and drove countless others to set out upon this new venture and begin their own business or even create a whole new field. It is because of this technology that our working environment has improved to today's standards. "I think that computers a!re have given us the freedom to achieve so much of our "original" work. They have freed us from the repetitive tasks that took up much of our time so ...
